Destitution and Housing

This guide by Right to Remain outlines the causes and scale of migrant destitution in the UK, drawing on reports from organisations including the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, Crisis, and the Refugee Council. It covers poverty on asylum support (currently under £50 per week), the risks of homelessness during the asylum move-on period, No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF) conditions, Section 17 and Care Act support from local authorities, the National Referral Mechanism duty to house modern slavery survivors, and routes to housing and benefits after the asylum system. The guide is explicitly scoped to destitution as a lived experience and does not address destitution as a legal test in immigration rules (e.g. for asylum support eligibility or fee waiver applications).
