NCVOguide

Six steps to successful safeguarding

This NCVO guide distils the Charity Commission's 10 safeguarding principles into six manageable areas of activity: understanding and managing risk; putting policies and procedures in place; embedding safeguarding in governance; recruiting safely and training staff and volunteers; recognising, responding to, and reporting concerns; and promoting a culture where everyone feels safe to speak up. Each area signposts readers to relevant NCVO Knowhow pages, templates, writing guides, and external resources such as the Governance Code website and GOV.UK. It is particularly aimed at organisations getting started with safeguarding, including small charities that may not yet have formal policies in place.
