Culture of care & accountability

This policy, developed for Level Up and inspired by transformative justice thinkers including adrienne maree brown and Mia Mingus, sets out two interlocking frameworks: a proactive culture of care and a reactive culture of accountability. It defines harm broadly, outlines an accountability agreement grounded in feminist organising principles, and provides a three-level consequence structure — from informal check-in chat, through a call-in with consequences, to a formal call-out and grievance process. The policy is explicitly anti-punitive, prioritising growth, healing, and systemic change over shame or exclusion, and includes signposting to external mediation and transformative justice resources. It is most relevant to small activist or campaigning organisations seeking an alternative to conventional disciplinary frameworks.
