Safer spaces

This policy, framed for a salon context, outlines how staff, clients, collaborators, and visitors are asked to behave in order to make the space safe and welcoming — particularly for people from marginalised communities. It covers practical guidance on pronouns and gender identity, physical and emotional personal space, disability access (including the social model of disability), body image, differing opinions, substance use, and DBS-checked home visits. Notably, the policy takes a non-punitive, growth-oriented approach: it encourages gracious responses to being challenged and distinguishes between a person's character and their behaviour. It includes a feedback and complaints mechanism and explicitly states it goes beyond the minimum requirements of the Equality Act 2010.
