Carer’s, compassionate bereavement and parental leave

This policy from CAAT (hosted on RadHR) sets out entitlements and procedures for three related types of leave: carer's leave (up to four weeks paid per year, plus up to six months unpaid or reduced-hours leave every four years); compassionate bereavement leave (up to two weeks on full pay, then up to two further weeks on half pay, with additional unpaid leave by agreement); and parental leave (aligned with the statutory 18-weeks unpaid entitlement per child). It covers the process from an initial supportive conversation through workload-sharing plans, flexible working, and regular review meetings, and includes example lists of qualifying emergency and planned caring situations. The policy is written for an organisation with a small, flat structure — decisions on extended leave involve both staff collectively and a Steering Committee Staff Support panel — so it may need adaptation for organisations with different governance arrangements.
