Sickness and incapacity policy and procedures
This policy, produced by Campaign Against Arms Trade (CAAT) and shared via RadHR, covers the full lifecycle of staff sickness absence: reporting obligations, fit-note requirements after 14 days, and entitlement to full occupational sick pay for up to 26 weeks in any 12-month period. It also details income protection insurance (50% salary after six months' absence, payable to age 68) and explains how annual leave accrues and rolls over during sick leave. The incapacity procedure section sets out structured, supportive steps for managing long-term absence and repeated short-term absences, including reasonable adjustments, GP referrals, phased returns, and — as a last resort — capability dismissal with a six-week notice period and full appeal rights. A notable scope caveat is that the policy reflects CAAT's specific organisational structure (e.g. Staff Support Panel, Steering Committee, Static Reviewer roles) and may need adaptation for other organisations.
