Redundancy procedure
This policy sets out a step-by-step redundancy procedure designed for small, collectively run organisations, covering the grounds for redundancy, the establishment and role of a Redundancy Panel (RP), a formal one-month consultation period, non-discriminatory selection criteria, offers of alternative work, trial periods, and appeal rights. It emphasises that redundancy must be a last resort, that staff are kept fully informed throughout, and that all alternatives — such as freezing posts, reducing hours, or seeking new funding — must be considered before any decision is taken. The procedure distinguishes between scenarios where staff and the Steering Committee agree or disagree, estimating a total timeline of three to six months. Notably, the policy is written around CAAT's specific governance structure (Steering Committee and non-staff decision-makers), so organisations with different structures will need to adapt it accordingly.
