Equality and diversity
This short policy from Voice of Youth sets out how the organisation embeds equality and diversity across its work with young people, its workforce, and the wider community in Hackney. It lists concrete commitments for youth workers — such as challenging discriminatory language, creating working agreements, ensuring inclusive activities and appropriate food provision, and prioritising the voices of quieter participants — alongside organisational commitments including equal hourly pay for all youth workers, avoiding hierarchical structures, and involving all staff and volunteers in decision-making. The policy was developed through dialogue between youth workers and young people, and is explicitly designed to be brief so that workers and volunteers can be thoroughly familiar with it. It is written for a specific organisation (Voice of Youth) and would need adapting for use elsewhere.
